Bar Mitzvah Projects

Drew and Michael
Drew’s mother came across the Kids to Kids International Website last year. She was so impressed by the organization that she thought it would make a great Bar Mitzvah project for her younger son, Drew. She mentioned it to Drew when he returned home from camp and he was thrilled with the idea. Drew always mentioned helping kids in Darfur for his Bar Mitzvah project, but we could not think of how to help other than just sending money. KTKI would be a wonderful way to incorporate his artistic abilities and desire to help children from such a deprived nation. They asked Drew’s friend Michael to work on the project as well.
Together, we realized that we could all make a difference. So Drew, Michael and their moms, Lori and Sharon, got to work! Lori and Sharon explained to the boys that they were going to make their own books and send letters out to all their Bar Mitzvah guests. They would explain about Kids to Kids International and aske their friends and family if they would be willing to help them collect the school supplies.
The boys had a wonderful response. There were so many loved ones willing to help, and all were so impressed with this organization. While the school supplies and funds were coming in, Drew and Michael worked together on pages for their books. Finally, they were completed, laminated, and displayed for Drew’s Bar Mitzvah in March. Michael’s will be presented in December.
All are so happy that they accomplished what they had set out to do. Drew and Michael will definitely proposed this idea again next year at their schools to see if the schools could participate. Drew has even considered forming a club in his high school when he attends in 9th grade. Our Temples were very interested in unique ideas for Mitzvah projects, and are eager to mention Kids to Kids International to future B’nai Mitzvahs.
If the boys are able to receive photos of the children’s faces in Sudan, their efforts will become more of a reality and they will feel humbled, and anxious to participate all over again!
